Crock Pot Pork Roast with Gravy Recipe

Growing up, I don’t remember eating many pork roasts; instead, Mom typically made beef roast like our Beef Roast French Dip. My kids, on the other hand, are obsessed with pork – bacon, pork sausage, bacon, pork chops, bacon, pork steak, and bacon. So naturally, this slow cooker pork roast was a hit with my family.

This Slow Cooker Pork Roast with Gravy is a winner in my eyes because it uses canned soups (no packets)- simple pantry ingredients – with little to no prep needed. Pork roast tends to have a nice natural fat content, and when slow cooked, it mixes with the soups to create its own gravy. I recommend serving this over mashed potatoes.

How to Make a Tender Pork Roast

The goal is for the meat to be fork-tender. When you try to remove the roast from the crock pot, it should fall apart into large pieces. This is when you know it’s gonna be delish.

To get a tender pork roast, a 3-5 pound pork roast will take 5 to 6 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low in the slow cooker. Be sure to season the pork generously with salt and pepper. Dredging in flour and browning in oil before slow cooking will also add another layer of flavor, but isn’t necessary to end up with a delicious entrée.

Do you have to brown a pork roast before putting it in the crockpot?

No, this is an optional but highly recommended step. You can completely omit this step and still have a tasty dinner; however, taking the extra effort to brown the pork roast first will result in a better flavored-dish.

Should pulled pork be covered in liquid in slow cooker?

It’s ok if your pork is not completely submerged in liquid when you start cooking. You can flip the pork over half way through cooking, if desired.
