Frozen Potstickers In Air Fryer (1)

Making frozen potstickers in the air fryer is a fantastic way to enjoy a favorite take-out appetizer anytime the mood strikes. The air fryer gives you frozen potstickers that turn out perfect every time; delicious dough pockets wrapped around a flavorful, moist, and juicy filling with a crispy, crunchy bottom. So, they are just as delicious as the ones you get at your local Asian restaurant.

Like me, you may have seen frozen potstickers in the store but weren’t sure how to cook them. After some trial and error with other methods, I tried cooking frozen potstickers in the air fryer. They turned out so perfect that I knew I’d never cook them any other way again.

Like these Air Fryer Frozen Meatballs and Air Fryer Frozen Burritos, cooking up tasty potstickers at home is an affordable alternative to take-out dumplings. And since they’re not deep-fried, it is a healthier way to indulge those cravings. Secondly, these air fryer frozen dumplings are a winner all around!

Why Make This Recipe

  • Healthier Than Frying – Fried dumplings taste great but require much more oil. A light coating is all you need for moist potstickers—no deep frying.
  • Easy – Traditional steaming takes a lot of time and special equipment. When you air fry frozen dumplings it is just pushing a button.
  • Fast – Go from frozen to fully cooked and on the table in under 10 minutes.

Ingredient Notes

  • Potstickers – Look for these dumplings in the frozen food section. As a bonus, they come in a variety of flavors. You can use Trader Joe’s Frozen Gyoza or any other brand of choice.
  • Oil – Use the recommended oil as outlined in your air fryer manual. Next, it’s essential to use a cooking spray and generously coat the basket; this step ensures that the air fryer potstickers don’t dry out during the cooking process. Opt for a neutral oil, such as avocado oil, for best results.

What Are Potstickers?

Potstickers are Chinese-style dumplings often filled with pork, cabbage, vegetable filling, and sometimes shrimp. These dumplings are fried on the bottom, steamed, and then pan-fried again. The result is a delicious crispy exterior and a tender, juicy filling.

Furthermore, potstickers can also be called pot-stickers, wontons, gyoza, or dumplings. When buying frozen potstickers, you may see any or all of these names depending on the brand, but the differences will be subtle.

Delicious Variations

  • Use Sesame Oil – If you usually use a neutral oil in your air fryer, try sesame oil when making potstickers. The flavor is lovely, and it will work just as well as regular oil.
  • Add Dipping Sauces – Potstickers are definitely designed for dipping. So, here are some of our favorite options:
    • Sweet and sour sauce
    • Soy Sauce
    • Sweet Chili Sauce

    • Peanut Sauce
    • Hot Chili Sauce

FAQs

How Long To Air Fry Potstickers?

Air fryers can vary slightly in time and temperature, but you can air fry frozen dumplings in about 8 minutes!

Do I Need To Flip Potstickers?

Flipping the potstickers will help them to crisp up on both sides. We, however, recommend flipping them after about 4-5 minutes.

Can I Air Fry Potstickers Without Oil?

Yes! Oil helps the dumplings to get crispy without drying out. Without oil, they will still be delicious but may not get as golden on the outside.

What’s The Difference Between Dumplings, Gyoza, Potstickers, And Wontons?

Here are the differences between dumplings, gyoza, potstickers, and wontons; they are all related but have some distinctions.

Dumplings is a broad term encompassing dough parcels with fillings, found worldwide. Examples include ravioli in Italy, momos in Nepal, pierogies in Poland, and mandu in Korea.
Gyoza, Japan’s version, features thinner wrappers than Chinese dumplings and is typically pan-fried, but be sure to try air fryer gyoza.
– So, potstickers derive their name from caramelization, as they are dumplings (guotie) that are pan-fried and tend to stick to the pot.
Wontons, also Chinese, are smaller than jiaozi and have thinner wrappers. They’re often served in a broth with meat but no vegetables.

Why Are The Air Fried Frozen Dumplings Sticking To The Basket?

Gyoza can stick to the air fryer basket due to its doughy nature and high cooking heat.

To prevent sticking, you can take a few steps. Firstly, line the basket with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Secondly, create some holes in the parchment or foil to allow for proper air circulation.

You could also use pre-perforated parchment rounds or squares for ease.

Can You Cook Frozen Potstickers In The Air Fryer At 400 Degrees?

Indeed, you can cook frozen dumplings in the air fryer at 400 degrees. To begin, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F / 204 degrees C. Then, lightly coat the air fryer basket with a spray of oil and make sure both sides of the potstickers are evenly coated. Then, arrange the frozen dumplings in the air fryer basket to ensure uniform cooking. You have the flexibility to cook multiple batches if necessary.

Lastly, air fry the dumplings for 7-9 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. This will result in an extra crispy, golden brown exterior and ensure that they are thoroughly heated.

Which Frozen Dumplings Are Good?

In our view, the following frozen dumplings from reputable brands like Costco Potstickers, Trader Joe’s Potstickers, and Bibigo are good and delicious.

Specifically, these brands offer a variety of flavors and styles to cater to different tastes.

Ultimately, the choice between different brands depends on your personal preferences and dietary considerations. So, go take a look at your local grocery stores.

How Long To Air Fry Trader Joe’s Frozen Potstickers?

To air-fry Trader Joe’s frozen dumplings, preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees F / 190 degrees C, place them in a single layer in the basket, and cook for 10-12 minutes. Remember to flip them halfway through for even cooking. The aim is to achieve a crispy brown and fully heated result but keep an eye on them as cooking times can vary with different air fryer models.

What’s The Best Way To Cook Frozen Potstickers?

The best way to cook frozen dumplings depends on your preference and available equipment.

Pan-frying provides a crispy bottom and a tender, steamed top, while boiling is straightforward and yields juicy dumplings. Steaming preserves their delicate texture and flavor. Air frying is also an option for a crispy result, using less oil than traditional pan-frying.
Choose the method that suits your taste and equipment.
